African clean town platform (ACCP)

Ministry of the Environment, JICA established beautiful town platform (ACCP) (the outside site) in Africa as place to perform joint ownership of knowledge, experience about refuse in Africa, promotion of SDGs (sustainable development target) in cooperation with Yokohama-shi, United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), United Nations human settlement plan (UN-HABITAT), each African country, city in April, 2017.

Knowledge of past waste management and advanced technique are evaluated, and Yokohama-shi is placed as base of this country training and carries out the training for people in charge of waste management section in each African country.
In addition, at the whole meeting of this platform, we exchange opinions about problems of each African country and publicize approach of Yokohama-shi.

Through these platforms, we will push forward cooperation to Africa in the field of refuse in future.

Summary of African clean town platform

Process of establishment

In JICA side event "waste management seminar" of the sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD6) held in August, 2016, the need of platform for improvement in waste management of Africa was confirmed, and promotion of further cooperation was declared. With the declaration, Maputo declaration including establishment of platform was accomplished in the meeting held in Mozambique Maputo City in the next year, and "African beautiful town platform" was established.

We realize town where African countries are beautiful and healthy living by 2030 and achieve SDGs about waste management.

Conduct of the waste management training

In Yokohama-shi, we carry out the training for people in charge of refuse section in each African country.

Purpose

Member of each training makes problem of waste management of own country clear and, for solution to problem, learns Japanese example around Yokohama-shi.
In addition, as result in the training, we make utilization in own country and action plan about measure to be required.
